Peggy Paris

Me: "The author's name is Peggy Parish"
3rd grader #1 "You mean she's going to perish?" (with a smile on his face, because he knows he's being witty)
Me: Well all of us will perish at some point.
3rd grader #2 "That's the city of love!!!"
HAHAHA (for those of you who may not follow, he was thinking PARIS)

This is just sweet!

A note typed by one of my students (3rd gd) at her mother's work during a snow day and later given to me:

"You are the best teacher on the planet. Me and my classmates could never have a better teacher than you!!! We are very blessed to have you as our teacher and to be blessed to share this year with you!!! I don't think there is a better teacher than you on this whole entire planet!!! You have been an awesome teacher this year I wish you could bump up with us every year so we would always be together!!! I hope the day never comes when we have to separate. Hope you have a great year with us."

It's the things like these that you want to look at when you are having a bad day or feel like you're just not getting through or you're wondering if you were crazy to take on such responsibility.

"She was so much beautiful"

This one is just too cute. First, let me tell you a little bit about this student. He's in Kindergarten. He is a gorgeous little boy with big eyes that get really wide when he has something to tell you. You can tell his parents pay him a lot of attention because everytime he talks to you he talks as if it's the most important thing in the world and he makes sure he has your full attention. He also loves to be the center of attention and loves to make people laugh. He's the kind that you just can't stay frustrated with. Ok now for the story: He comes up to me and says "Ms. DelMoro I just saw Audrey in the hall" (Audrey is a 4th grader)"and she was so much beautiful". I wish you could hear how serious and in love he sounded! It was adorable!

"What sound does it start with?"

This happened with a Kindergarten student.
I had several students tell me that one student said a "cuss word" in the bathroom. Of course, with kindergarteners some students would think that words like "stupid" or "idiot" are cuss words, and though they are not very nice words, that would be handled differently. So I go to the student and say "Did you say a cuss word in the bathroom?" He replied "Yes." Me: "What sound did it start with?" Him: "'Fuh', and the other sounds were 'uh' and "'ck'". My mouth all but fell open. Part of me wanted to say "Great segmenting!" while the other part of me wanted to address the situation and try to make sure it didn't happen again. Needless to say, I addressed the situation.

Welcome!

Hello, everyone! I was trying to think of what I wanted my blog to be about and I remembered a conversation with a fellow teacher about all the things you hear from your students (things that are funny, random, completely unbelievable, etc.) and how teachers could probably write a book and make millions just by recording these quotes. I would love for all of us to share these "They said what?!" moments. Please share your own "They said what?!" quotes and let's see what we come up with. Of course, make sure not to give any identifying information (school names, student names, etc.). I promise if I make millions from writing a book I will share the money with you contributors!
